Queering Our Practice | Sex and Relational Work

The worlds of psychotherapy and sex work have been siloed but we want to challenge and change this. We believe that sex workers and relationship/sex therapists not only have huge overlap in their work but would benefit from a professional space to share each other’s learning and experience. The Queer Therapist and Loxley Sexology have teamed up to create an inclusive group service for queer sex and relationship practitioners. This is not group therapy, nor is it group supervision. This community goes beyond the therapy realm & opens its arms to all sex and relationship practitioners.

Our facilitator Chris is a highly experienced GSRD (gender, sex, relationship diversity) therapist with an interest in working with gender diversity and neurodiversity in relationships. Our co-facilitator Bima is a Clinical Sexologist and Sex Educator who offers psychosexual and relationship therapy for individuals, couples and multiple partnered relationships, directing their passion towards GSRD folk.

Who can join?

Sex workers, doms, relationship therapists, clinical sexologists, sex educators and psychologists, counsellors and psychiatrists with a specialism in sex and relationships. If you’re unsure if you meet our criteria, just ask!

Aims

  • To enable the development of reflexive and professional skills through collaboration with other practicing professionals

  • To enable practitioners to identify and find solutions to problems that clients bring

  • To develop practitioner knowledge and competence in order to enable them to assume responsibility for their own safe and effective practice

  • To build a professional community of queer sex and relationship practitioners

  • To build resources as a practitioner community

What to expect

Our approach to the group is integrative. This means we use different perspectives and theories to draw on when working with the group; we adapt our approach to suit the group's changing needs. The main therapeutic modalities we draw upon are psychosexual therapy, ACT, schema therapy, mindfulness-based CBT, narrative therapy, TA, human givens therapy, gestalt and somatic therapy. Our work is trauma-informed and is underpinned by intersectionality, queer theory and neuroqueer theory.

There are two different groups depending on the frequency of sessions you prefer:

Option A: 1.5hrs of bi-monthly group | 8-12 members | Closed Group

Option B: 1.5hrs of monthly group | 8-12 members | Closed Group

Please note: groups are closed but will open to new members if the group number drops below 8.
