Accessibility

We want you to enjoy using website, and to be able to access the information you need quickly and easily. With this in mind, we’re continually working to update our website to make it as accessible as possible to everyone who uses it.

Navigating the website

Some website pages include embedded images with text. For every embedded image like this we have included alt text descriptions of the image and text. For the rest of the website, we have formatted the pages to suit screen readers. We are currently in the process of updating our website to make it even more accessible. We hope to include a dark mode toggle and longer alt text descriptions.

PDF documents

We use PDF (Portable Document Format) documents on our website to make certain information available for you to download and view. You will need the Adobe Acrobat reader in order to view them. If your computer doesn’t already have this installed you can download Acrobat Reader from the Adobe website

The accessibility of PDFs has improved in recent years for those using assistive technologies such as screen readers, navigation through the keyboard and enhanced screen viewing. You can find information about using these features on the Adobe website

Closed Captions

Therapy services provided by The Queer Therapist are fully online. We use zoom for video conferencing and the option for closed caption calls are available.

Any videos on the website include closed captions.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-Informed therapy understands and considers the pervasive nature of trauma and promotes environments of healing and recovery rather than practices and services that may inadvertently re-traumatise. Trauma-Informed Care follows five guiding principles that serve as a framework for how service providers and systems of care can work to reduce the likelihood of re-traumatisation. These principles are generalisable across a variety of service settings. The five guiding principles are: safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness and empowerment. At The Queer Therapist you will be asked to provide any access requirements you need in order for the service to be as trauma informed as possible.
